Physiatry Explained
(Service temporarily unavailable as of Dec 2020)
Physiatry, also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation, is a field of medicine that focuses on neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions which impact function. Physiatrists are doctors who assess for nerve, muscle or bone problems that affect how you move. Physiatrists investigate, make diagnoses and create an appropriate management plan that may include strategies such as physical therapies, bracing, medications and injections.
Physiatrists look at the whole person, not just one symptom in order to help improve your function. They also work closely with other members of your healthcare team including physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists and osteopaths in order to help optimize your care.
